Last week, we introduced the concept of alignment and how it affects our lives. Just like a misaligned car hampers our ability to navigate smoothly, being out of alignment internally can create hurdles that hinder our path to well-being and fulfillment. This week, we’ll delve deeper into aligning head knowledge with heart knowledge and discuss one important way to help align our head knowledge with our heart knowledge.

First, you must understand your core values and beliefs. What do you think of yourself? Is it different from what you want to believe?  If so, it’s OK - we’re just out of alignment.  We can fix that!

Take a moment to assess your core beliefs.  Make a list of your values.  Put it somewhere that you can refer to it regularly because you won’t always feel the same way you think; this is normal and the reason we’re even discussing this topic.  Once you’ve identified your core values and beliefs, we need to start to pay attention to your inner monologue.

Our inner monologue, the constant stream of thoughts and self-talk that runs through our minds, shapes our self-perception and overall well-being. Within this internal dialogue, we form beliefs about ourselves, both consciously and subconsciously. When our inner monologue aligns with our core beliefs about ourselves, it creates a harmonious and empowering mental environment.

While aligning our inner monologue with our core beliefs starts with recognizing and embracing our inherent worth, we must also correct ourselves when it’s not aligned with our values.  When you catch yourself thinking something negative or mean, you must stop and update that thought with something positive and encouraging.  By nurturing positive self-talk that focuses on our strengths and achievements, we foster self-confidence and a belief in our ability to overcome challenges and pursue our goals.

How you speak to yourself should mirror how you want others to talk to you. Speaking to ourselves with kindness, understanding, and forgiveness is especially difficult during difficult or perceived failures. But when our inner voice is compassionate, it acknowledges mistakes and setbacks. It offers support and encouragement rather than self-criticism.

By consciously aligning our inner monologue with our core beliefs about ourselves, we create a nurturing and empowering mindset that supports our overall well-being. This alignment allows us to develop resilience, maintain a positive outlook, and navigate life's challenges with greater self-assurance. It reinforces our belief in our capabilities and strengthens our motivation to pursue personal growth and meaningful goals.

It is important to acknowledge that aligning our inner monologue with our core beliefs is an ongoing process. It requires self-awareness, intentional self-reflection, consistent practice - and grace. Negative thoughts and self-doubt may still arise, but by recognizing them and consciously replacing them with positive and empowering self-talk, we can gradually rewire our inner dialogue and cultivate a mindset that reflects our true worth and potential.

This is just one way to align our head knowledge with our heart knowledge.
